Commercial Portfolio Manager II
About the Role
The Commercial Portfolio Manager (“Portfolio Manager”) is primarily responsible for managing a portfolio of assigned relationships in adherence to Bank policies and procedures and in accordance with sound risk management practices. This role involves client relationship development, financial and collateral performance analysis, and active participation in portfolio reviews to ensure continued portfolio growth and prudent risk management.
Responsibilities
- Ongoing client relationship development and maintenance, including client onsite visits and periodic telephone check-ins to understand the client’s current and proposed business activities.
- Expand existing client relationships by proactively reviewing and addressing the client’s current and changing financial needs.
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of client needs through analysis of personal and financial data to deepen profitable relationships.
- Maintain the credit quality of the assigned portfolio, working with Credit partners to complete loan approval forms, underwrite loans, and obtain appropriate credit approvals.
- Review and evaluate monthly borrower financial and collateral performance, including spreading and analyzing financial statements, reviewing collateral trends, and verifying compliance with financial covenants.
- Actively participate in the new deal process, including preparation of opportunity memos and deal models.
- Integrate activities with the Collateral Monitoring Group to ensure proactive management of client collateral reserves, rates of advance, and other aspects impacting the Bank’s collateral position.
- Prepare and actively participate in periodic portfolio reviews with management, reporting on borrower financial performance, collateral trends, risk ratings, and other key risk management issues.
- Perform sales activities in an inside sales capacity, including analyzing the portfolio to identify opportunities, mining cross-LOB opportunities, and making referrals.
- Conduct client prospecting, including calling efforts and setting appointments.
- Serve as a bridge between Credit and Sales, analyzing the portfolio for quarterly and annual reviews, developing spreads, and assigning risk ratings for deals in the proposal stage.
- Complete PLR and LCT analyses, manage the annual renewal process, and identify cross-sell opportunities.
- Perform account administration activities, including following up with clients for documentation and signatures, working with Relationship Managers to clear exceptions, and conducting analysis for the monthly borrowing base.
- Coordinate loan documentation with outside legal counsel to protect the Bank’s rights and remedies.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree.
- 7 years of Commercial banking and/or Credit Underwriting experience.
- Proficiency with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication and presentation skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks.
- Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals and groups in managing customer relationships.
Preferred Skills
- Judgment in determining appropriate loan structures and covenants.
- Ability to use discretion during deal screens to enforce or eliminate requirements.
Supervisory Responsibilities
May be responsible for directly managing Market Support Specialist(s).
Physical Requirements
- Occasionally lifts and carries up to 10 lbs.
- Frequently stands and sits.
- Periodic travel, including client visits and attendance at industry trade shows or conferences.
Pay
$130,000/year to $138,000/year.
