Commercial Loan Team Manager
Position Summary
The Commercial Loan Team Manager leads the team responsible for managing, servicing, documenting, and closing commercial loans while overseeing a portfolio of high-value clients. This role provides leadership, credit and risk oversight, and operational direction to ensure accurate loan execution, strong portfolio performance, regulatory compliance, and responsive client service. The ideal candidate develops team members, improves processes, and promotes a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing team environment.
Essential Duties
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, mentor, and develop Commercial Portfolio Managers and loan support staff.
- Provide guidance on credit structuring, documentation, risk assessment, and client relationship management.
- Set clear performance expectations, support professional development, and foster a collaborative, accountable, customer-focused team culture.
Portfolio Management & Loan Servicing
- Oversee a commercial client portfolio, supporting strong performance, sound servicing, and risk mitigation.
- Manage renewals, modifications, covenant tracking, delinquencies, and other servicing matters.
- Partner with relationship managers, credit, and operations to ensure seamless portfolio support.
Loan Closing & Documentation Oversight
- Oversee the preparation, review, documentation, and closing of commercial loans.
- Ensure loan documentation is accurate, complete, and compliant with internal and regulatory standards.
- Review complex loan structures and coordinate closings, including satisfaction of funding conditions and engagement with legal counsel as needed.
Credit & Financial Analysis
- Oversee financial analysis, due diligence, and risk assessment for commercial loan opportunities.
- Ensure underwriting quality and alignment with credit policies and risk tolerance.
- Partner with credit and risk teams to structure complex credit facilities.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure portfolio management and loan operations comply with banking regulations, audit standards, and internal policies.
- Serve as a liaison during audits and regulatory examinations.
- Identify, escalate, and resolve findings, implementing corrective actions as needed.
Systems & Process Management
- Oversee loan documentation and workflow systems, including LaserPro, CRM, Pipedrive, and CreditQuest.
- Ensure accurate tracking, reporting, and documentation throughout the loan lifecycle.
- Implement process improvements that enhance efficiency, accuracy, and risk mitigation.
Strategic Planning & Execution
- Develop strategies to optimize portfolio performance, growth, and profitability.
- Monitor market, industry, and economic trends to identify risks and opportunities.
- Align portfolio and operational goals with broader organizational objectives.
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Build strong relationships with internal partners, external stakeholders, and legal counsel.
- Serve as an escalation point for complex, sensitive, or high-risk issues.
- Promote responsive, high-quality service to internal and external clients.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field required
- Minimum 5 years of commercial portfolio management experience required; 7+ years preferred
- Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience required; 5+ years preferred
- Prior experience supervising loan servicing or loan documentation teams preferred
- Demonstrated experience reviewing commercial loan documents
- Experience coordinating loan closings and working with external legal counsel
- Experience with LaserPro strongly preferred
- Experience using CRM and Loan Origination Systems (e.g., Pipedrive, CreditQuest, or similar)
