About the Role

Responsible for developing new loan business, cultivating deposit relationships (including treasury management services), servicing the existing loan portfolio, and collecting past-due loans.

Responsibilities

  • Perform commercial lending, real estate lending, and business development duties:
    • Visit and counsel loan prospects and existing customers to assess loan needs, deposit accounts, financial capacity, growth plans, and earnings.
    • Obtain prospect referral information from current customers.
    • Prepare loan analyses to determine creditworthiness of prospects.
    • Prepare loan packages and present them to the Loan Committee.
    • Work with customers to establish mutually acceptable lending arrangements.
  • Manage the existing loan portfolio:
    • Follow up with existing customers to assess satisfaction and identify additional needs.
    • Monitor current loans and credit lines for conformity with loan terms and detect slow payment trends or collateral deterioration.
    • Manage exceptions.
  • Handle customer service and banking issues:
    • Assist customers directly with accounts, loans, or potential bank relationships.
    • Authorize checks for cashing.
    • Determine disposition of daily overdrafts.
  • Maintain awareness of and involvement in community, civic, and professional activities.
  • Participate in internal officer meetings regarding loan decisions, business development, advertising, community involvement, and daily operations.
  • Perform collection duties on past-due accounts:
    • Identify problem loans.
    • Contact delinquent borrowers via telephone and/or letters.
    • Attempt to establish repayment schedules or rewrite original loans when applicable.
    • Pursue legal foreclosure, repossession, and sale of collateral when necessary.
    • Work with attorneys during liquidation procedures.
  • Make credit decisions, oversee loan closing, funding, and servicing.
  • Monitor new loans, past dues, NSFs, and exceptions.
  • Verify proper documentation to protect the Bank’s interest on loans.
  • Assist in the decision-making process for the Loan Committee.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Resolve customer complaints and problems.

Requirements

  • College degree in finance, accounting, or a related field.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in commercial and real estate lending.
  • Ability to analyze loan requests and assess the financial capabilities of customers.
  • Sufficient knowledge of credit analysis methods and techniques to perform complex credit and financial analyses.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state banking laws and regulations.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and work in a stressful environment.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer relations skills.

External Contacts

  • Customers and prospective customers.
  • Realtors, builders, and other lenders.
  • Regulators, title companies, and appraisers regarding loan inquiries, solicitation, and related business.

Internal Contacts

  • Regular contact with Senior Loan Officers (SLO), lending staff, and other branch personnel.
  • Occasional contact with the Board of Directors.
