About the role

The Commercial Loan Officer is responsible for soliciting, negotiating, underwriting, and coordinating the closing of business loans in compliance with the Bank’s lending policies and procedures. They develop business checking and deposit relationships, promote the Bank’s services, and assist in attaining established goals through sales management, community engagement, and networking. The role requires developing knowledge of the financial industry, market conditions, rates, vendors, and competition.

Responsibilities

  • Engage in business development activities and solicit new business while maintaining a positive sales environment.
  • Interview prospective applicants, gather loan or credit application information, and resolve questions regarding applications.
  • Perform pre-qualification assessments and analyze financial conditions and risk within the Bank’s credit framework and economic trends.
  • Gather and analyze information to present financing requests to senior management or the Loan Committee; negotiate loan terms and conditions.
  • Coordinate processing of approved loans, ensuring compliance with agreements, customer needs, and Bank policies.
  • Obtain documentation from customers and resolve processing or servicing issues within the loan portfolio.
  • Approve loan disbursements, payments, draws from lines of credit, and fund transfers within specified limits.
  • Research credit inquiries and UCC filings to determine creditworthiness and collateral positioning.
  • Negotiate, underwrite, and process renewals of credit facilities.
  • Authorize commitment, engagement, action, and decline letters.
  • Reinforce superior customer service through example and follow-through.
  • Follow Bank policies and procedures, complete administrative tasks, and support the Bank’s goals and values.

Requirements

  • 10–15 years of commercial lending or related finance experience.
  • 4 years of post-secondary education in business or finance preferred.
  • Advanced experience in financial statement and tax return analysis.
  • Knowledge of commercial, construction, and commercial real estate loan processing.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, and technical procedures.
  • Knowledge of state and federal lending regulations and Bank lending policies.
  • Proven ability to develop marketing and business development skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft products, bank software, and basic computer operations.
  • Advanced math skills, including calculations of interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.
  • Exceptional oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and interpret procedures, reports, and correspondence.
  • Current Minnesota driver’s license and vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage if required.
  • Ability to perform duties safely without endangering self or others.

Pay

$90,000–$140,000 base salary plus commission. Starting pay is determined based on candidate experience, qualifications, skills, and geographic area.
