Commercial Lines Underwriting Specialist

About the role

We are looking for a Commercial Lines Underwriting Specialist to join our collaborative underwriting team and help us provide thoughtful insurance solutions that make a difference.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite and manage a portfolio of medium to large commercial accounts, ensuring profitability and alignment with company objectives.
• Build strong partnerships with independent agents by developing business plans, attending agency visits, and providing responsive, consultative service.
• Analyze risks, negotiate terms, and make informed underwriting decisions while staying aligned with authority levels and company appetite.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, Marketing, and IT to support growth initiatives, process improvements, and strategic projects.
• Represent MOE at agency functions and industry events while being a trusted resource for our partners.

Requirements

• 7+ years of commercial underwriting or related insurance experience.
• Strong technical, analytical, and communication skills, with the ability to navigate complex risks.
• A relationship-builder who thrives on collaboration and delivering excellent service.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with reinsurance practices.
• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent combination of education and experience); industry designations preferred.

Qualifications

• Preference will be given to candidates located in WA, OR, ID, MT, WY, AZ, or UT.
• Candidates must be able to work during our core Pacific Standard Time (PST) business hours.

Pay

Hiring Range: $105,549 - $121,587
Salary Range: $105,549 - $141,108
