About the Role
The Commercial District Manager will provide proactive leadership, motivation, and guidance to build, develop, and expand the territory in sales and service for Coats. This role represents Coats in all activities associated with these duties, implementing corporate commercial strategies to grow equipment revenue, service revenue, and profitability.
Territory: Western New York, Western Pennsylvania, and Northern Ohio. This is a remote position, but candidates should reside in or near Buffalo, NY, or Rochester, NY, to effectively cover the territory. The role requires up to 80% travel within the assigned region, including overnight stays.
Responsibilities
- Lead and motivate a team to achieve sales and service goals, including reviewing revenue, profitability, and CSR metrics weekly.
- Translate strategy into action, anticipating business trends and creating competitive plans.
- Effectively communicate strategy and direction to internal teams and external partners (Distributor Sales Reps).
- Build and maintain high-performing teams by hiring, retaining, and developing diverse talent.
- Model ethics and values, holding the team accountable for performance and development.
- Develop and sustain quality customer relationships, resolving issues at the store level for major accounts.
- Perform field service management activities, including inspections of service crews and evaluating technician performance.
- Conduct face-to-face sales and service calls at end-user locations, delivering presentations on Coats products and services.
- Monitor customer, market, and competitor activity, evaluating trends and competitive strategies.
- Collaborate with internal product teams on customer needs and feedback.
- Optimize or develop channel strategies to grow offerings through distribution partners and Coats service technicians.
- Lead sales and service functions, reviewing district service metrics to identify improvement opportunities.
- Understand and manage a profit and loss statement, learning customer operations to create synergies.
- Attend monthly, quarterly, and annual national and regional shows and marketing conferences as required.
- Handle all administrative functions related to sales and service.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree with 3 to 5 years of experience managing people in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- 1 to 2 years of experience managing in a shop or field environment, including planning, scheduling, and coordinating activities to meet customer needs.
- Proven track record of achieving sales growth through strong account management, relationship building, and organizational skills.
- Strong presentation skills, self-starter mentality, and ability to inspire others.
- Adaptability and ability to interact and influence credibly at all organizational levels.
- Demonstrated knowledge of on-site equipment installation and service preferred; automotive aftermarket knowledge is a plus.
- Ability to read, comprehend, and interpret technical instructions and publications.
- Strong organizational, communication, and analytical skills.
- Proficiency in computer skills and company software.
- Excellent driving record and ability to travel extensively within the assigned territory.
