Commercial Construction Estimator

About the role
We're looking for an experienced Commercial Construction Estimator to lead and build out our DFW estimating function. This isn't a typical bid estimating job. We're a relationship-driven, collaborative general contractor, and estimating is where those relationships start. You'll be involved with clients, architects, and trade partners early in the process, shaping projects before they're ever put out to bid.
This role is based out of your home office, but you'll need to be local to the DFW area and available to travel regularly to job sites and client meetings. You should know the local market inside and out: trade partner relationships, material pricing trends, local code and permitting, and the general rhythm of how work gets done here.
Responsibilities
- Grow the estimating department, not just doing the work but building the department
- Develop and implement estimating systems, processes, and technology, with real input on the tools and workflows we use
- Lead conceptual, preliminary, and final estimates and budgets for commercial ground-up and renovation projects across DFW
- Produce detailed quantity takeoffs and cost analyses
- Build and maintain relationships with trade partners, suppliers, and vendors across the market
- Partner directly with clients, architects, and project teams from early design and preconstruction, not just receiving a finished set of plans to bid
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and scope reviews
- Identify project risks, value engineering opportunities, and cost-saving solutions
- Collect, compare, and negotiate trade partner and supplier bids
- Collaborate closely with project managers and field teams to ensure estimates translate cleanly into project execution
- Mentor and eventually build out additional estimating support as the department grows
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required
- 5+ years of commercial construction estimating experience, with real depth in the DFW market
- Strong, current relationships with DFW area trade partners and suppliers
- Experience across a range of commercial project types including ground-up and renovation
- Proven ability to read construction drawings and specifications
- Experience performing quantity takeoffs
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
- Comfort with, and strong interest in implementing estimating software and process improvements
- A relationship-first mindset. You see estimating as the start of a partnership with the client, not a transaction
- Self-starter who can operate independently in a remote setup while staying highly communicative with the team
- Leadership instincts. This role will grow into leading others
- Procore experience is a plus
- Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities
Benefits
- Competitive salary and benefits package
- Commitment to professional growth with opportunities to advance your career and achieve your goals
- Collaborative and innovative team environment where contributions are celebrated and encouraged
- Opportunity to train and develop the best lead builders in the industry
