Commercial Construction Estimator

With multiple offices, more than 300 employees, and 7 divisions – Asphalt and Concrete, Waterproofing and Specialty Coatings, Roofing, Snow Removal and Parking Lot Sweeping, Landscaping, and Construction – DCPS provides specialized, integrated service-solutions to commercial property owners and managers.
Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for commercial construction projects, including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor pricing
- Review architectural plans and engineering drawings to fully understand project scope and requirements
- Communicate with vendors, subcontractors, and project managers to gather pricing and clarify specifications
- Support proposal preparation, including participation in client presentations as needed
- Maintain and update a directory of suppliers, subcontractors, and pricing data
- Track construction materials, trends, and cost changes to ensure accurate estimating
- Utilize estimating software and tools to perform cost analysis, forecasting, and budgeting
- Maintain records of estimated versus actual project costs for benchmarking and continuous improvement
- Assist with contract negotiations to ensure projects align with budget and scope expectations
- Collaborate with project management teams to ensure estimates align with project execution and outcomes
Requirements
- 3–6 years of experience in construction estimating or a related field
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and project management principles
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and construction documents
- Proficiency in estimating software and tools such as Bluebeam, Excel, DocuSketch, and CompanyCam
- Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and negotiation abilities
- Ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience estimating commercial construction projects
- Familiarity with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
- Experience collaborating with project management and field teams
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally
- Ability to sit, stand, and work at a computer for extended periods
- Ability to visit job sites and navigate active construction environments as needed
Work Environment
This role is primarily office-based with occasional travel to job sites for site walks, project assessments, and client meetings. Work schedules may vary depending on project deadlines and bid timelines.
Pay
$100,000 – $115,000 annually. This is a bonus eligible position. Final compensation will be based on experience, qualifications, and market conditions.
