Combo Vac Operator Apprentice, I, II, and III - Wastewater

Based on experience and qualifications, candidates may be hired at one of the following levels:

• Apprentice Combo Vac Operator – $42,431.01 - $61,526.40 annually ($20.39 - $29.58 hourly)
• Combo Vac Operator I – $44,977.43 - $65,218.80 annually ($21.62 - $31.35 hourly)
• Combo Vac Operator II – $47,676.50 - $69,132.54 annually ($22.92 - $33.23 hourly)
• Combo Vac Operator III – $50,537.36 - $73,280.88 annually ($24.29 - $35.23 hourly)

About the Role

Under general supervision, performs technical tasks in the operation of the wastewater collection and/or storm water system. Employees in this classification assist with operating a Combo Truck, maintenance of all its equipment, and preparing work sites.

Responsibilities

• Assists with the operation of Combo Truck.
• Assists in maintaining all combo truck equipment (nozzles, wands, vac cans).
• Reads and understands GIS maps with supervision.
• Assists with preparing work site and traffic control.
• Responds to emergency sewer/stormwater requests.
• Performs other duties as assigned or directed.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Must possess a valid Class A commercial driver’s license with tankers endorsement or the ability to obtain within twelve (12) months of employment.
• Must pass a drug screen and background check.
• Must have Class C Texas Driver’s License.
• Must obtain the National Incident Merit System (NIMS) certificate IS-100 and IS-700 within 6 months of employment.
• During storms or natural disasters, staff will be divided into two 12-hour shifts and may be called in while on vacation.

Physical Demands

• Tasks involve heavy physical effort, including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
• Lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling moderately heavy objects (20-50 pounds); occasionally up to 150 pounds.
• Requires visual and odor perception and discrimination.

Work Environment

• Limited exposure to environmental conditions, including strong odors, smoke, traffic hazards, and extreme heat/cold or weather conditions.
