GENERAL DUTIES

Under supervision, performs miscellaneous clerical, administrative, research or other work related to the operation of a College or other unit where such work is required on a part-time basis or for a period of limited duration.

About the role

CUNY Central Office is seeking College Assistants to work in various departments on its administrative campus. Under supervision, the incumbent will perform miscellaneous clerical, administrative, research or other work related to the departmental operations. Employees in the College Assistant title work up to 20 hours per week, and 1,040 per fiscal year.

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine clerical work; may answer and attend to telephone calls; maintain records, operate office machines (such as copier), sort and distribute mail, issue keys and identity cards, act as messenger, and perform related tasks as required.
  • Types letters, memoranda, charts, and similar materials.
  • Acts as cashier.
  • Affords assistance in statistical or research activities which can include collecting and compiling data, coding data for computer entry, performing data entry, and running computer reports.
  • Enters and maintains departmental records such as inventory control records, rosters, directories, and schedules.
  • Responds to routine questions and requests from clients, students, and staff.
  • Drafts communications, letters, or memoranda; assists with initiatives, projects, and/or event planning.
  • Uses standard computer software, other office technology, and operating office equipment (such as scanners, faxes, and copiers) to perform related duties.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Must demonstrate sufficient skills to perform the duties of the assigned tasks.
  • Functional experience utilizing Excel and other standard Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong organizational and follow-through skills.
  • Customer focused with ability to interact and work cooperatively and collaboratively on a team to assist diverse internal and external constituencies.

Benefits

This is a part-time position of up to 20 hours per week. Evening hours may be needed to carry out normal business operations. Hourly rate: $19.12 to $29.32 ; commensurate with education and work experience. Compensation is based on department budget. Benefits CUNY offers a comprehensive benefits package to employees and eligible dependents based on job title and classification. Employees are also offered pension and Tax-Deferred Savings Plans. Part-time employees must meet a weekly or semester work hour criteria to be eligible for health benefits. Health benefits are also extended to retirees who meet the eligibility criteria.
