About the role

The Judicial Department works to provide equal access to justice, contribute to public safety, and strengthen the rule of law across Colorado. This role administers, enforces, and collects all restitution, fines, and costs ordered by the Court in traffic, misdemeanor, juvenile delinquency, and felony cases. Responsibilities include prioritizing collection of restitution, client stability, and revenue recovery while implementing assertive collection techniques with professionalism and integrity.

Responsibilities

  • Administer, enforce, and collect restitution, fines, and costs ordered by the Court.
  • Conduct complex investigations and skip-tracing using various databases and tools to locate, investigate, and contact persons owing money.
  • Analyze documentation and other information provided or found through research.
  • Interview defendants and associated parties required to pay financial assessments.
  • Determine eligibility and ability for planned payments; establish payment plans that mutually benefit the client, courts, and victims.
  • Assist defendants, public, victims, court staff, attorneys, probation, employers, and other government agencies in resolving complex procedural concerns, account discrepancies, customer complaints, and other difficult inquiries.
  • Monitor, resolve, execute, and track delinquencies using collections reports.
  • Prepare and issue past due notices, attachment of earnings, writs, liens, probate claims, and referrals to private collection agencies.
  • Execute, implement, and monitor authorized collections enforcement actions by collaborating with probation and other agencies.
  • File special reports.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and oversight of local policies, standard operating procedures, and programs for the Collections Department.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of policies and procedures.
  • Complete special duties, projects, and tasks.
  • Participate in training and meetings as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • At least three (3) years of work-related experience in client supervision, financially related work, or judicial experience.

Skills

  • Comprehensive, practical knowledge of work processes.
  • Ability to complete a broad range of work, sometimes complex, without frequent reference to others.
  • High level of tact and ability to respond to aggressive interpersonal interactions.
  • Professionalism and integrity in implementing assertive collection techniques.

Work Environment

  • Sedentary work involving sitting most of the time; occasional walking or standing.
  • Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally.
  • Office or similar indoor environment; confined space.
  • Exposure to hostile or irate individuals, individuals with known violent backgrounds, or communicable diseases.
