About the role
The City of College Park seeks a Code Enforcement Officer to enforce city codes and ordinances related to property maintenance, zoning, fire safety, and noise.
Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with all City codes and ordinances related to property maintenance, zoning, fire safety, and noise.
- Complete approximately 6-8 weeks of initial training Monday-Friday, 8:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M.
- Transition to a 10-hour shift schedule that consists of Wednesday through Saturday, 8:00 A.M. to 6:30 P.M.
- Attend court hearings and staff meetings.
Requirements
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Computer proficiency.
- A valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or GED equivalent.
- One year of specialized coursework or training in fire safety, construction technology, building inspection, or a related field.
- A valid driver's license in the state of residence.
- Ability to obtain the ICC Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector certification within the first six months of hire.
- Possession of either the ICC Property Maintenance and Housing, ICC Zoning Inspector, MD Fire Inspector I, or Community Noise Enforcement certification preferred.
Skills
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal codes and ordinances related to property maintenance, zoning, fire safety, and noise.
- Ability to communicate effectively with residents, businesses, and other city departments.
- Proficiency in using computer software and applications relevant to the job.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Benefits
- Compensation starting at $30.29-$31.05 per hour, plus a competitive benefits package including retirement contributions.
Pay
- Starting hourly range is $30.29-$31.05.
Schedule
- Initial training: Monday-Friday, 8:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M.
- After training: Wednesday through Saturday, 8:00 A.M. to 6:30 P.M.
