The Position
The purpose of this classification is analyze Information Technology needs; design, test, implement, and maintain Information Technology solutions for the City of Albany and Dougherty County governments.
Responsibilities
- Analyzes test data and recommends hardware or software for purchase.
- Consults with staff and users to identify operating procedure problems.
- Identifies areas of operation which need upgraded equipment.
- Formulates and reviews plans outlining steps required to develop programs to meet staff and user requirements.
- Devises flow charts and diagrams to illustrate steps and to describe logical operational steps of programs.
- Writes documentation to describe and develop installation and operating procedures of programs.
- Tests and evaluates hardware and software to determine efficiency, reliability, and compatibility with existing systems.
- Captures and maintains computer printouts and performance indications to locate code problems.
- Modifies programs to correct errors by correcting computer codes.
- Aids staff and users to solve computer related problems, such as malfunctions, program problems, and solve data communication problems.
- Trains staff and users in using computer systems, equipment, and programs.
- Performs on-call, worked and non-worked after hours support duties on a rotating basis.
- Maintains effective communication with vendors regarding applications, programs, software.
- Solves user questions/problems by telephone or in person.
- Reads technical manuals and brochures to determine equipment and develop programs which meet staff and user requirements.
- Writes and revises program and system design procedures, test procedures, and quality standards.
- Attends seminars and training schools as needed; maintains awareness of new operating systems, computer languages, software, and techniques.
Requirements
- Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in information systems or closely related field; supplemented by two (2) years previous experience and/or training that includes PC based programming and computer operations required, MCSE required and CCNA required; Masters degree preferred; additional certifications and training will be required and ongoing.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license.
Skills
