Pay

Starting pay: $18.00 per hour plus additional shift differential for evenings, nights, and weekends.

Schedule

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, including holidays. Hours: 6:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Typically averages 40 hours per week. Work schedule is subject to change based on production needs.

About the Role

This position is responsible for cleaning and disinfecting poultry houses; removing used litter from poultry houses; assisting with bird movement as needed; placing new shavings in poultry houses; bush hogging and/or mowing around poultry houses; and maintaining and cleaning farm equipment.

Requirements

  • Must have at least 12 months of consecutive work history with one employer and no additional job gaps in employment greater than 6 months in the past 36 months (extended to 18 months for layoffs or child/elder care).
  • Previous work history does not apply to applicants who have been full-time students consecutively for the last 36 months.
  • Rehire criteria: minimum waiting period of 180 days; no more than 3 prior employments at Cobb/Tyson Foods.
  • Must reside in the United States to be considered for an interview.
  • Applicants with previous agricultural or production experience are preferred.
  • Must be able to pass a physical examination and drug screen.
  • Must communicate in oral, written, and comprehensive form.
  • Must complete production/receiving reports accurately and legibly.
  • Must use safe lifting techniques and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be willing to sign an agreement to avoid contact with avian species (chickens, ducks, birds, etc.).
  • Must sign and abide by the Company Biosecurity and Animal Welfare Guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Remove used litter from houses; clean and disinfect poultry houses and all equipment (including vehicles/tractors) utilizing a commercial pressure washer on wet/slick floors; place new shavings in houses following cleaning (55%).
  • Move birds as required to feed conversion houses, growing houses, laying houses, or live haul loading area (10%).
  • Repair and maintain tractors, pressure washers, litter trucks, trailers, and mechanical equipment (10%).
  • Other duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or be assigned at any time, such as:
    • Repair cages, pens, equipment, and buildings or fenced yards.
    • Repair pens or equipment (feeders, waterers, lights, fans, etc.).
    • Farm cleanup, such as garbage/litter retrieval.
    • Properly euthanize weak/ill birds in accordance with company policy (10%).
  • Perform simple math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) as part of recording information (15%).

Biosecurity/Animal Welfare Requirements

  • The jobsite is a biosecure environment requiring showering and changing clothing/footwear before entering the facility (provided by the Company).
  • No jewelry may be worn except for medical ID jewelry; body piercings must be covered by appropriate clothing.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Must use safe lifting techniques and regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds (e.g., partitions, cages, bird coops).
  • May occasionally use tools (e.g., pallet jack) to lift and/or move up to 2,000 pounds (e.g., skids of supplies, shavings).
  • Regularly required to:
    • Stand for the majority of the shift (concrete floor).
    • Walk, sit, use hands to handle objects/controls, and reach with hands and arms.
    • Balance, climb ladders, stoop/bend up to 1,000 times per day.
    • Talk or hear, drive a vehicle within the farm complex.
    • Proficiently operate trailer/tractor/skidsteer/hyster.
  • Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be willing and able to perform physical requirements with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Required to work on wet, slippery surfaces and in hot, dry, dusty, wet, icy, snowy, and cold environments.

  • Expected to follow all applicable safety policies and procedures, including Hazard Communication, Respiratory Protection, Lockout/Tagout, and Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Expected to identify, address, and mitigate safety-related risks.
