About the role

The Coach will develop youth athletes in all aspects of swimming, including mental, psychological, and physical development under the direction of the Competitive Swim Director.

Responsibilities

  • Instructs a group of swimmers in accordance with YMCA guidelines and prepares practice plans.
  • Maintains constant surveillance of all program participants, emphasizing pool safety.
  • Builds effective, authentic relationships with swimmers and parents, helping them connect with each other and the YMCA.
  • Aids in year-round competitions in both YMCA and USA sanctioned swimming events.
  • Encourages parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers.
  • Provides positive, encouraging, and specific feedback on stroke technique.
  • Uses teachable moments to discuss character development and provides constructive feedback during practice sessions using positive motivation techniques.
  • Communicates swim team information to parents in a positive and supportive manner.
  • Attends meetings, clinics, banquets, fundraisers, and team social functions as required and needed.
  • Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures.
  • Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
  • Utilizes equipment appropriately with activities and incorporates skill development.
  • Organizes and puts away needed class equipment.
  • Cleans up pool deck after each session.
  • Reports damaged equipment.
  • Keeps the Competitive Aquatic Director apprised of situations requiring his/her attention.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Minimum age of 18.
  • Minimum of 2 years prior experience in competitive aquatic coaching.
  • Possess ASCA Level 2 certification or higher.
  • Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, ARC Swim Coach Safety Training, First Aid.
  • Current YMCA Lifeguarding or Red Cross Lifeguarding certification, and obtain YMCA Lifeguarding Certification within 60 days of hire.
  • Oxygen Administration certification (required within 30 days of hire).
  • Demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
  • Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness.

Salary

$17.85 per hour.
