About the role
This position supports interscholastic athletics programs at AACPS for students who wish to pursue the challenges and benefits of sports. The role may involve being a Head, Assistant, or Volunteer Coach.
Responsibilities
- Provides a set of written training rules/code of conduct policies to students at the beginning of the season.
- Determines the personnel of the team.
- Administers appropriate forms of discipline for infractions of athletic policies, rules, or regulations, consistent with the Administrative HELP Manual’s reference to due process.
- Communicates written requirements for earning an athletic award to students before the start of the season.
- Sends an eligibility roster to the athletic director at least one week before the first contest.
- Maintains a written inventory of equipment, supplies, and uniforms at the end of the season.
- Familiarizes themselves with all current medical protocols and guidelines involving interscholastic athletics.
- Enforces all state, county, and school athletic policies and procedures.
- Attends appropriate meetings at the school and at the county level, and participates in appropriate rules interpretation meetings.
- Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.
Additional Duties
- Assistant Coach - Works with the head coach to establish a uniform program.
- Assistant Coach - Provides the head coach with all requested information.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalency Certificate required.
- Bachelor's Degree in related field of education from a regionally accredited college or university preferred.
- Athletic experience at the middle school, high school, college, organized recreation council program, and/or professional level in the sport or related coaching experience required.
- Current teaching experience preferred.
