About the role
Under minimal supervision, creates CNC programs, develops 2D and 3D part models, machines components accurately and efficiently, and designs fixtures and tooling to support a variety of parts, from prototype one-offs to stocked inventory components used on equipment within the facility.
Essential Functions
- Develop designs for a variety of products, components, fixtures, tooling, and equipment.
- Plan, conceptualize, program, and produce parts using CNC milling equipment.
- Fabricate working prototypes to support testing, validation, and process improvement activities.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, models, and specifications to set up CNC mills accurately.
- Use CAD/CAM software to create cutting paths and program machines according to part requirements.
- Perform quality checks to confirm finished parts meet design specifications and dimensional requirements.
- Adjust machine settings, tooling, and cutting paths to improve efficiency while maintaining quality standards.
- Select appropriate tools, feeds, and speeds for a variety of materials and program requirements.
- Troubleshoot and resolve machine, tooling, and programming issues as they arise.
- Perform routine machine maintenance, including cleaning, coolant upkeep, and tooling care.
Education & Experience
- Five years of experience as a CNC Programmer-Machinist or in a closely related role.
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong analytical skills with excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage time and priorities effectively.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
- High proficiency with CAD/CAM software such as Fusion 360, SolidWorks, Surfcam, or Inventor.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and part specifications.
- Ability to convert drawings and models into finished CNC-milled parts.
- High proficiency in the operation and upkeep of CNC mills; Haas experience preferred.
- Ability to use machinist measuring tools, including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and depth gauges.
- Ability to create and modify 2D and 3D models.
- Strong math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and geometry.
- Ability to read, write, comprehend, and communicate effectively in English.
- Collaborative, team-oriented, and self-motivated work style.
- Ability to reverse engineer parts, tools, or components.
- Ability to machine parts using a broad range of materials.
- Ability to interact professionally with team members, internal customers, and vendors.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to perform moderate physical activity, including somewhat strenuous daily tasks.
- Frequent manual work involving lifting, bending, and reaching.
- Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination required.
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. for short periods of time.
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
- Ability to ascend and descend steps or stairs.
- Manufacturing: Works predominantly on the manufacturing floor. May be exposed to heat, electrical and mechanical hazards, noise, solvents, dust, dirt, fumes, contaminants, cold, noise, vibration, etc.
- Climbing, stooping, kneeling, lifting, pulling, pushing and ability to move material weighing up to 40 lbs.
- Ability to perform basic preventive maintenance tasks on tools and equipment.
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, gas torches and measuring instruments.
- Ability to read blueprints, technical manuals and use measuring equipment.
- Requires standing for prolonged periods of time.
