CNC Machinist (Off Shift)

Core Responsibilities

• Sets up and operates conventional and special purpose machines to fabricate metallic parts.
• Applies knowledge of machine shop theory and procedures, shop mathematics, machinability of materials and layout techniques.
• Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations and set up requirements.
• Marks and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or work piece as guides for subsequent machining.
• Selects, aligns and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories and materials on machine, such as saws, mills, grinding, burning and drilling equipment.
• Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors, such as speed, feed, coolant flow and depth and angle of cut.
• Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out of tolerance machining and adjusts machine controls as required.
• Sets up and operates machine on a trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings.
• Verifies dimensions using measuring instruments, such as micrometers, height gauges and gauge blocks.
• May develop specifications from general descriptions and draw sketch of part or product to be fabricated.
• May confer with engineers, production personnel or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of manufacturing experience.
• Ability to edit programs for CNC equipment.
• Ability to follow simple written and verbal instructions.
• Good understanding of blueprint reading with regards to machining diameters (ID & OD), surfaces and simple shapes.
• Ability to machine parts to specified tolerance and use simple measuring devices like micrometers and depth micrometers to measure the part.
• Able to routinely lift 50 lbs or more on a regular basis.
• Able to work in narrow spaces, climb, balance, stoop and kneel.
• Prior experience working with stainless and tool steel alloys preferred.
