About the role

The CNC II Machinist is responsible for the operation, setup, and adjustment of CNC lathes used to manufacture and repair drill string components in accordance with customer and OEM specifications. Working under the direction of a shop foreman or supervisor, this position requires the ability to interpret work orders, engineering drawings, and machining programs to ensure parts are produced accurately and efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret work orders, engineering drawings, and machining programs to ensure parts are produced accurately and efficiently.
  • Load and properly orient parts using cranes or semi-automated equipment.
  • Perform first-article inspections.
  • Monitor machine operations to identify and correct issues before they result in nonconforming parts.
  • Use precision measuring instruments to verify dimensions, document inspection results, and ensure all finished products meet quality standards.
  • Provide feedback on machining processes and make necessary adjustments to maintain production efficiency.
  • Proactively identify potential problems that could impact quality or productivity.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment while complying with all company, safety, quality, and environmental policies.
  • Perform and document daily preventative maintenance on equipment.
  • Ensure all work orders, part prints, and CNC programs are verified before beginning a job.

Requirements

  • Sufficient knowledge of CNC controls, including Mazatrol and FANUC systems, to make program edits, adjust offsets, and verify machining operations meet required tolerances.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • A commitment to safety and quality.
  • The physical ability to stand, reach, and perform repetitive movements throughout an 8–10 hour shift.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience operating CNC lathes.
  • Experience with Mazatrol and FANUC systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and machining programs.
  • Proficiency in precision measuring instruments.
  • Knowledge of safety and quality standards.
