Responsibilities
- Set up and operate manual and CNC machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, boring machines, and grinders to machine plastic or metal workpieces.
- Ensure workpieces meet exacting tolerances and fit properly.
- Inspect first pieces of a run, work-in-progress parts, and final completed parts using various measuring devices to maintain quality standards.
- Utilize Geometric Dimension & Tolerance guidelines from prints to ensure accuracy.
- Operate fabrication machinery to produce parts used in manufacturing processes, primarily on Mazak and HAAS equipment.
- Ensure proper machine setup and accurate interpretation of prints and specifications to avoid material damage.
- Perform frequent tolerance and quality checks to detect and correct errors.
Qualifications
- Excellent mechanical skills.
- Good shop math skills.
- Ability to operate various types of machine tools to perform progressive machining.
- Read and interpret blueprints and plans to set up and process.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- College coursework or formal training in related fields preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of shop experience or equivalent trade school apprenticeship.
- Necessary technical training in shop math and blueprint reading.
Skills
- Strong mechanical skills.
- Proficient in shop math.
- Ability to operate different types of machine tools.
- Skilled in reading and interpreting blueprints and plans.
Pay and Benefits
The starting salary for 2nd shift machinists ranges from $26-$28 per hour, depending on skill and experience, with a $1.50 shift differential and $1.00 raise every 6 months to a maximum of over $35/hr. There's also a quarterly performance bonus of up to $750.
