About the role

Curtis Machine is seeking a CNC Machinist to set up and operate 3, 4, and 5-axis CNC machines and lathes. Responsibilities include checking first parts using precision measuring and hand tools.

Responsibilities

  • Study blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions, tolerances, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
  • Measure, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points on material or workpiece as guides for subsequent machining.
  • Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills and lathes.
  • Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, depth, and angle of cut, or enter commands to retrieve and input data.
  • Start and observe machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining; adjust machine controls or control media as required.
  • Verify conformance of finished workpiece to specifications.
  • Set up and operate machines on trial runs to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
  • Confer with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining problems.
  • Make adjustments necessary to maintain quality parts within control limits.

Requirements

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs.
  • Familiar with safety standards and PPE utilized in a manufacturing setting.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Ability to read and write English.
  • Proficient in blueprint reading.
  • Knowledge of hand tools and precision measuring tools, such as calipers and micrometers.
  • Ability to stay on task with minimal supervision.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills and a good eye for detail.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and quality focus.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma.
  • Math skills: decimals, percentages, fractions, ratios, proportions; geometry and trigonometry is a plus.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and mylars.
  • Basic computer knowledge and skills.
