About the role

The Senior Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as an experienced caregiver to residents during the scheduled work period in long-term care. Demonstrates expert-level experience as a certified nursing assistant and assists other staff as needed. Provides resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). Knowledge of and delivers age-appropriate care related to the physical and psychological needs of the resident as per the care plan. Considered a member of the nursing team and is expected to follow infection prevention and control policies and Personal Protective Equipment use.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with basic health care needs including daily living activities such as bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing/undressing, obtaining and recording vital signs, and providing psychosocial support.
  • Assists residents in transferring, repositioning, and walking using correct and appropriate transfer techniques and equipment; provides range of motion and passive exercises.
  • Completes tasks related to food preparation and dining, creating a positive dining experience for residents; assists with meals and snacks, provides water and supplements as appropriate.
  • Aids providers and nursing staff members with procedures, if needed.
  • Documents resident interactions and outcomes related to resident care, behavior, activity, and dietary.
  • Communicates resident's changing condition and care-related concerns/responses to the charge nurse.
  • Collects non-invasive body fluid specimens and gathers vital signs.
  • Provides housekeeping and laundry services to assist residents with keeping living areas clean and operational.
  • Provides assistance and documentation with wellness and recreational programs; encourages resident participation.
  • May participate in departmental/organization committees and task forces.
  • May be responsible for completing tasks related to the Restorative Nursing program, including documentation, scheduling, and leading restorative programs.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or general equivalency diploma (GED) preferred, but not required.
  • Minimum age of 16.
  • Two years' clinical or nursing assistant experience in long-term care preferred.
  • Required Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification with the State Board of Nursing.
  • Satisfactorily completes yearly department-specific competency testing and maintains a record of continuing education credits (minimum of 12 hours annually).
  • Maintains all department-specific required certifications.
  • May be required to complete Restorative Nursing training within 6 months.
  • When applicable, certified and registered with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry.
  • May require a motor vehicle report and proof of valid driver’s license if the role classifies as a Sanford Category II Driver; must be medically qualified to perform essential driving functions per Sanford Driving Policy.

Pay

Salary Range: $20.75 - $29.50 per hour. This position may qualify for a sign-on bonus of $2,500.

Schedule

  • Shift: 8-hour night shifts.
  • Job Schedule: Full time.
  • Weekly Hours: 32.00.
