Responsibilities
- Provides patient care under the supervision of licensed staff and in compliance with Covenant HomeCare policies and procedures.
- Takes and records temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, and input-output measurements as outlined on the HHA Plan of Care (POC).
- Provides morning or evening care, including bed bath, oral hygiene, shampooing and combing hair, back care, nail care, skin care, dressing patient, changing bed linen, and cleaning the surrounding area.
- Performs routine treatment procedures as outlined on the HHA POC within the defined scope of practice for certified nursing assistants.
- Assists RN and/or LPN in treatment or procedures.
- Provides general care such as positioning, lifting, or turning patients; assisting with bedpan, urinal, or commode; assisting with ambulation and exercises; safe patient transfers including use of patient lift; and application/removal of anti-embolism stockings.
- Assists in cleaning equipment, preparing for disinfecting or sterilization, and reporting malfunctioning equipment.
- Properly uses equipment such as ice bags, ace bandages, and abdominal binders as outlined on the HHA POC.
- Performs basic infection control techniques, including proper bag technique, hand washing, glove usage, handling and disposing of wastes, and keeping dirty and clean items separate.
- Attends to nutritional needs of patients, which may include preparing meals and feeding patients.
- Performs range of motion exercises under supervision of Physical Therapy where appropriate.
- Checks schedule and calls patients to provide arrival times.
- Reports any changes observed in condition or behavior of patients and unusual incidents to licensed staff.
- Assists in orienting new employees.
- Demonstrates knowledge and competency in providing for age-specified needs of the population served.
- Completes and submits patient visit documentation.
- Assists with medications that are ordinarily self-administered (including topical) as outlined on the HHA POC.
- Local travel required.
- Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards.
- Completes required education assignments annually.
- Works toward achieving goals and objectives and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Six (6) months of hospital or related experience.
- CNA Licensure from the State of Tennessee is required upon hire. Out-of-state hires must have the Tennessee CNA License “in process” as reflected on the state website upon hire.
- CPR certification required.
- Valid Tennessee driver’s license (Class D) and state-mandated minimum insurance coverage.
- Driving record must meet Covenant Health minimum standards at the date of hire and throughout employment tenure.

Schedule
- Full Time, 80 hours per pay period.
