(CLS) Clinical Lab Scientist, Spec. - Per Diem - 140867
Per Diem position at Jacobs Medical Center, La Jolla Clinical Lab - Blood Bank. Work schedule is variable, 8-hour shifts, Monday through Sunday.
About the Role
Under the supervision of a Senior Supervisor CLS, perform a wide variety of technical procedures in a section of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. Responsibilities include method development, modification, parallel testing, collaboration on or preparation of abstracts or manuscripts, repair of laboratory instruments, sample processing, reagent preparation, data entry, and phlebotomy duties. Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and other shifts as needed.
Daily, assess overall workload for any area that needs help and assist coworkers without being reassigned by the supervisor. Work is assigned daily and reviewed by supervisory personnel or designee. All Clinical Laboratory Scientists may process specimens, perform waived and non-waived testing without direct and constant supervision, and report results without supervisor or director review for tests within their scope of licensure and for which they have been trained and deemed competent.
Responsibilities
- Perform technical procedures in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.
- Engage in method development, modification, and parallel testing.
- Collaborate on or prepare abstracts and manuscripts.
- Repair laboratory instruments.
- Process samples, prepare reagents, and perform data entry.
- Perform phlebotomy duties.
- Assess workload and assist coworkers as needed.
- Work weekends, holidays, and variable shifts.
Requirements
- Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) or appropriate sub-specialty license issued by the State of California, Department of Public Health.
- Graduation from college with a major in a relevant field.
- Two (2) or more years of relevant experience.
- Knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of duties assigned to the position.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree.
- Experience with SoftLab LIS and Epic.
- Experience with automated instrumentation: Sysmex XN, Iris IChem\IQ, TEG, and Roche Cobas.
- Generalist skills in Hematology/Chemistry.

- If applicable, life-support certifications (BLS, NRP, ACLS, etc.) must include hands-on practice and in-person skills assessment; online-only certification is not acceptable.
Pay
Annual Full Pay Range: $162,822 - $162,822 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%). Hourly Equivalent: $77.98 - $77.98. Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
