About the role
Under the supervision of a Senior Supervisor CLS, perform a wide variety of technical procedures in a section of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. Responsibilities include method development, modification, parallel testing, collaboration on or preparation of abstracts or manuscripts, repair of laboratory instruments, sample processing, reagent preparation, data entry, and phlebotomy duties. Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and other shifts as needed. Daily, assess the overall workload for any area that needs help and assist coworkers without being reassigned by the supervisor.
Responsibilities
- Perform technical procedures in a clinical laboratory section
- Method development and modification
- Parallel testing and collaboration on abstracts/manuscripts
- Repair of laboratory instruments
- Sample processing, reagent preparation, and data entry
- Phlebotomy duties
- Process specimens and perform waived/non-waived testing without direct supervision
- Report results for tests within scope of licensure and competency
- Assess workload and assist coworkers as needed
Requirements
- Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) or appropriate sub-specialty license issued by the State of California, Department of Public Health
- Graduation from college with a major in a relevant field
- Two (2) or more years of relevant experience
- Knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of duties assigned to the position
Preferred Qualifications
- SBB (Specialist in Blood Banking, ASCP) certification
- Experience with blood bank information systems (e.g., SoftBank)
- Experience with Ortho Vision analyzer
- Experience with product modification workflows

Pay
Hiring Pay Scale: $74.27/hour. Annual Full Pay Range: $162,822 (prorated if appointment percentage is less than 100%). Hourly Equivalent: $77.98. Factors determining compensation include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure, certifications, and business/organizational needs.
Schedule
- Per Diem appointment at 20% time
- Evening shifts, 8-hour shifts, Sunday-Saturday
