Essential Functions
- Aids in assessing staffing needs.
- Identifies potential staffing concerns and informs the manager.
- Safeguards the clinic and infusion suite's smooth operation, ensuring a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
- Maintains drug inventory at appropriate levels.
- Collaborates with the manager to address clinical issues.
- Supports audits and reports as needed.
- Performs clinical duties including but not limited to:
- Refer patients to appropriate support services.
- Assist physicians with procedures.
- Assist lab staff and CNAs/Medical Assistants/LPNs when necessary.
- Assist Chemotherapy Prep Tech when necessary.
- Act as a clinical preceptor for newly hired staff.
- Review patients' EMRs to ensure all required data is entered.
- Complete assigned clinical activity and report reviews.
- Make staff assignments and enter data into the daily huddle dashboard as needed.
- Act as a mentor/role model for all clinical staff.
- Be readily available to nursing staff for discussions.
- Assist with investigating and resolving patient/visitor concerns/complaints.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of nursing principles and practices.
- Knowledge of oncology practices and treatments.
- Knowledge of state-of-the-art developments in cancer diagnosis and therapy.
- Expertise in oncology to colleagues, allied health personnel, and health care consumers.
- Ability to administer chemotherapy and other treatment therapies.
- Empathy towards patients and families, dealing with grief and difficult patient interactions.
- Collaboration with healthcare teams to develop individualized treatment plans for cancer patients.
- Coping with death and dying.
Education & Experience
- A Registered Nurse (RN) with at least 2 years of oncology experience or at least one year as an RN at Tennessee Oncology.
- ONS Chemotherapy – Immunotherapy certification required at the time of or within 3 months of hire.
- Oncology Nursing Certification (OCN) required at the time of hire or within six months of hire.
- AHA or ARC BLS certification required at the time of hire or within 3 months of hire.
- Strong organizational and communication skills are essential.
