About the Role
The Nursing Assistant II + Clerical (Clinical Support Tech II) position is in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU), part of UNC Center for Health and Vascular Care. The CICU provides an interdisciplinary approach to caring for patients with cardiac and vascular disease, offering a dynamic work environment and supportive atmosphere committed to excellent healthcare and collegial interactions.
Responsibilities
- Assists physicians and other healthcare providers with routine examinations and procedures, including procurement of equipment and supplies.
- Critically reviews patient care documentation, noting significant changes in patient condition and reporting to a registered nurse or physician.
- Performs clerical tasks such as organizing workload, greeting visitors, researching information, reviewing orders, answering phones/patient call lights, transcribing physician orders, and maintaining medical records.
- Conducts routine quality assurance audits, safety checks, and inventory of supplies.
- Provides administrative and clerical support, including PI audits and data entry.
- Offers clinical support assistance, such as cleaning work areas, maintaining equipment, troubleshooting software/hardware, changing linens, restocking supplies, transporting patients/supplies/specimens, and assisting in orienting new employees and students.
- Provides direct personal care to patients, including bathing, dressing, feeding, assisting with ambulation, measuring and recording vital signs, height, and weight.
- May perform specimen collection, skin preps/scrubs, catheter care, capillary blood glucose checks, simple wound care, range of motion exercises, and postural drainage.
- Reinforces patient teaching provided by registered nurses or physicians and documents patient understanding of instructions.
- Distributes patient education materials as requested by patients or healthcare providers.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required; higher-level degree may satisfy this requirement.
- Listed as a Nursing Assistant I by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.
- Licensed as a Nursing Assistant II by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- One (1) year of clerical or customer service experience and three (3) months of nursing assistant experience.
- Fluent in verbal and written English language.
- Capability to develop computer skills if not already competent.
Pay
Salary range: $19.12 - $27.17 per hour (Hiring range determined by experience and internal equity).
