Clinical Support Staff

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Identifies common and recurring needs of the patient.
  • Guide patients through the complexities of their diagnosis, supportive services, and the health care system.
  • Prepares patients for physical examination by obtaining and documenting patient data including but not limited to: Vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes.
  • Maintains flow of patients to avoid delays for providers and undue waiting for patients.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team utilizing communication tools to provide focused and concise information.
  • Transcribe exact written prescriber instructions for order entry including medications, laboratory, and radiology procedures and provide patients with instructions.
  • Screens, assists, and performs routine clinic procedures and testing including but not limited to: Lab collection, bone marrow biopsy, EKG, oxygen evaluation.
  • Use of computer applications, greeting patients, faxing documents, and maintaining medical records.
  • Switchboard operations including answering phones, routing calls, appointment scheduling, complete intake form for symptom triage.
  • Opening and closing clinic duties with preparation for next day.
  • Follow practice standards to ensure consistency and effectiveness, promoting positive outcomes and access to health care.
  • Demonstrate effective and respectful communication with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
  • Approach patient care with empathy and compassion.
  • Affords assistance to staff in clinic quality improvement measures and clinic standards of practice.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations related to nursing practice, OSHA, and HIPAA requirements.
  • Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions.
  • Knowledge of quality metrics.
  • Skill in organizing work to achieve clinical goals and meet patient/medical provider needs.
  • Skill to maintain clinical competency as required for certification and clinic standards.
  • Skill to ensure that equipment and facilities are in proper condition for use in delivering health care.
  • Skill to engage in diverse populations and provide culturally sensitive coaching, education, and assistance.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work as a team member.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient information.
  • Ability to integrate new work processes and adapt to change.
  • Ability to exercise courtesy, tact, and professionalism.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment is relevant to changing patient needs.
  • Ability to receive feedback and apply it to work performance.
  • Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  • Ability to attend required meetings and participate in committees as requested.

Education/Experience

  • Certified Medical Assistance, Certified Nursing Assistant.
  • Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required.
  • One year of clinic experience is preferred.
