About the role

The Clinical Supervisor is a member of the unit-based leadership team. Provides supervision of the nursing operations of a unit. In the absence of the Manager or Director may assume 24-hour nursing responsibility. Works with a unit specific patient population.

Responsibilities

  • May perform the duties and responsibilities of the Staff Registered Nurse for a specific patient population.
  • Makes daily staff work assignments based on patient acuity and clinical competence of staff. May recommend staffing requirements for the next shift.
  • Makes patient rounds, evaluates nursing/unit activities, sets patient care priorities and recommends operational changes to enhance services of the unit.
  • Supervises nursing/patient care staff, including orienting, training, counseling, and evaluating.
  • Interprets and communicates hospital and division nursing philosophy, policies, procedures, and established standards of care and practice. Assists in the development of department goals, objectives, policies and procedures.
  • Maintains adequate supplies, equipment, etc. for operations of unit. Makes appropriate recommendations to control the operational budget.
  • Participates in the unit Quality Improvement activities.
  • Coordinates admissions and discharges. Serves as a communication liaison between patients, families, staff, and physicians, and reports critical consequences of actions taken to Manager or Director.
  • Complies with hospital and professional license, certification, in‑service, and training requirements, and committee and conference participation as appropriate for position.
  • Maintains familiarity with nursing care issues relating to medical problems, surgical procedures, and diagnostic studies, and technical training in the use of equipment pertinent to area.
  • Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/visitor/patient injury‑accident to Manger or Director.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Three (3) years experience in clinical area with a minimum of one (1) year in area of specialty OR Bachelor's degree or higher in Nursing with two (2) years of experience in clinical area with a minimum of one (1) year in area of specialty.
  • Current license in the State of Georgia as a Registered Nurse or Nurse Compact (NLC/eNLC) or Multistate license.
  • Certified in American Heart Association's Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS).
  • Visual color acuity depending on the role in specific units.

Preferred

  • Additional Life Support credential (ACLS, PALS, NRP, etc.) or other clinical specialty certifications in specific units.
