About the role

The Clinical Social Work Educator partners with Division of Social Work leadership to assess learning needs, develop and deliver orientation and competency-based education, and support policies and procedures that promote high-quality patient care. The role advances ongoing professional development for clinical social work staff, contributes clinical expertise in departmental workgroups and committees, and collaborates across multidisciplinary teams.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serves as a clinical and educational resource to social work staff on practice standards, clinical processes, institutional policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Affords learning needs assessment and designs, implements, evaluates, and revises education programs, orientation content, and competency-based training for clinical social work staff.
  • Partners with the Senior Director, Social Work Managers, Clinical Supervisors, and Preceptors to support onboarding, transition training, and ongoing staff development.
  • Provides clinical instruction, coaching, and support to staff, preceptors, and trainers to strengthen practice, role effectiveness, and competency development.
  • Incorporates current research, specialty guidelines, and diverse teaching methods into educational programming and curriculum development.
  • Supports quality improvement, patient care standards, and safety initiatives by aligning education with departmental and organizational goals and outcome measures.
  • Participates in departmental committees, professional development activities, and special projects to advance social work practice and education.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong clinical social work knowledge and the ability to support staff practice in a fast-paced oncology setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with staff and clinicians across disciplines and levels of the organization.
  • Strong teaching, presentation, coaching, critical thinking, problem-solving, and independent decision-making skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, listening, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities with discretion.
  • Ability to identify learning needs and develop orientation, training, and competency-based education for clinical social work staff.
  • Understanding of the needs of patient populations from young adult through geriatric age groups.
  • Demonstrated understanding of systemic inequities and commitment to diversity, equity, advocacy, and ongoing self-education in support of underserved and marginalized populations.

Minimum Job Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Social Work required. 7 years' social work practice required, with at least 3 years' experience in an oncology setting or with oncology patients required. 5 years' oncology experience preferred.

Special Working Conditions

  • Hybrid.
  • Works in clinic and office settings with possible exposure to hazardous drugs and infectious diseases through airborne transmission or contact with blood or body fluids.
  • Routine travel to DFCI sites (Boston and Satellites) is required.

Pay

$104,700.00 - $115,500.00
