About the Organization

The Grand Junction Regional Center (GJRC) is one of three Regional Centers in Colorado that serve people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who have intensive needs. Established in 1919, GJRC operates both Intermediate Care Facilities/Intellectual Developmental Disabilities (ICF/IDD) homes and Home and Community Based Services Waiver (HCBS Waiver) homes throughout the community. The center serves a diverse population, ranging from individuals with high abilities but high risk to themselves or others to those with significant medical challenges. Programs are individualized to meet varying needs, offering services such as residential care, health services, mental health intervention, day programs, vocational and specialized habilitation, speech therapy, occupational therapy, therapeutic recreation, and nutritional services.

About the Role

The Clinical Security Officer I (CSO) provides safety oversight, crisis intervention, and environmental monitoring across GJRC homes and programs to ensure a secure environment for residents, staff, and property. The CSO supports agency staff through training, de-escalation assistance, and adherence to Safety Care standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily safety checks across ICF, HCBS, and day program sites, documenting findings and reporting concerns promptly.
  • Identify and address safety or environmental hazards, notifying the appropriate staff such as the Safety Team, the CSO Lead, supervisors, or Facility Management as needed.
  • Monitor staff performance related to safety and security and relay relevant observations to supervisors.
  • Use approved verbal de-escalation and physical intervention techniques consistent with Safety Care and GJRC standards.
  • Respond to crises involving aggressive or unsafe behaviors, using the least restrictive measures.
  • Assist in searches for AWOL individuals and coordinate safe return or transport to appropriate facilities.
  • Search environments for dangerous items, contraband, or weapons and secure them safely when needed.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement when circumstances require external support.
  • Support disaster drills and real-time emergency situations, ensuring communication with supervisors and leadership.
  • Provide Safety Care training as a certified instructor and determine if staff require certification or additional training. Offer coaching and feedback to staff regarding safety procedures and de-escalation expectations.
  • Assist with agency projects, minor maintenance tasks, and departmental database support.
  • Work collaboratively across departments to ensure coverage and operational continuity.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Schedule

This position follows a rotating two-week schedule:

  • Week 1: 3 days on / 4 days off
  • Week 2: 4 days on / 3 days off

Shifts are 12 hours in duration and may be day shift, night shift, or swing shift. Specific shift assignments and schedules will be determined upon hire based on program needs. Work arrangements are subject to change at any time.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
  • Must be a legal resident of the United States. If appointed to the position, applicants from outside of Colorado will be required to relocate to Colorado prior to their start date, at their own expense.
  • Must possess a valid, non-restricted Colorado Driver’s License or a non-restricted U.S. Driver's License for positions within 30 miles of the CO state border. Out-of-State Driver’s License holders must obtain a valid, non-restricted Colorado Driver’s License within 30 days of employment start date.
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Must pass a full background check, including CBI name check and fingerprint check, ICON Colorado court database, Medicare fraud database, reference checks, professional license verification (if applicable), drug screen, PREA, Trails check, and CAPS.
  • Must pass a TB test and comply with required vaccinations, including Influenza and others as mandated by state and facility.
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical/test demonstrating the ability to exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, up to 20 lbs. frequently, and up to 10 lbs. constantly to move objects.
  • Former State employees who were disciplinarily terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must disclose this information on the application and explain why it should not disqualify them from the current position.

  • Security experience.
  • Training experience.
  • Experience and knowledge of verbal de-escalation techniques.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Experience executing approved physical interventions.
  • Experience working with IDD populations.
