Clinical Security Officer I - Colorado Mental Health Hospital in Fort Logan (Denver)

About the role

The Colorado Mental Health Hospital at Fort Logan (CMHHIFL) is expanding its forensic bed capacity to 16 from 138, aiming to enhance mental health services for the metro area. CMHHIFL focuses on treating adults with complex mental illnesses and promotes trauma-informed care.

Responsibilities

• Respond to psychiatric emergencies and non-emergency situations, applying hospital policies and procedures.
• Support patient transport needs and assist nursing staff in creating a safe and therapeutic environment.
• Patrol and observe the hospital to prevent and control security incidents, documenting criminal activity and performing safety inspections.
• Communicate with law enforcement agencies and escort clients and staff to various locations.
• Perform monthly fire drills and evaluate staff training.
• Assist with transporting clients and staff to and from various locations.
• Assist with environmental safety checks and on-unit/campus transports to treatment programming and meals.
• Provide security and enforcement by patrolling and observing the hospital to detect and prevent security incidents.
• Document reports of criminal activity and perform traffic surveillance and parking control.
• Resolve situations that pose a threat to life, health, or property.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• College education in a behavioral health or justice-related field preferred.
• Experience working with adjudicated and/or detained individuals, and behavioral health settings.
• Experience facilitating psychoeducational groups and working with adolescents who have trauma.
• Experience utilizing verbal de-escalation and motivational techniques.
• Must be 21 years of age or older.
• Must be a resident of Colorado at the time of application and throughout employment.
• Must have a valid Colorado driver’s license or non-restricted U.S. driver’s license for positions within 30 miles of the state border.
• Must pass a tuberculosis (TB) test.
• Must successfully complete the CMHHIFL New Employee Orientation core curriculum.
• Must demonstrate the physical abilities required for the job, including lifting, kicking, and controlling others.
• Must be able to see, hear, and communicate effectively in English.
• Must be able to work in varying noise and temperature conditions, including outdoor work.
