Qualifications

  • Education: ADN required; BSN preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of two years of clinical nursing experience in psychiatry; progressive management experience preferred.
  • Current Ohio RN license.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise staff assigned to the unit or center of excellence, demonstrating coaching and mentoring abilities.
  • Lead and implement operational improvement initiatives, ensuring compliance through staff coaching and mentoring.
  • Identify needs for specific equipment and ensure adequate, properly functioning supplies for patient care.
  • Ensure shift practice complies with state and federal medical laws (EMTALA, HIPAA, and House Bill 316).
  • Maintain hospital-wide and department-specific nursing competencies, completing annual requirements on time.
  • Collaborate with the Department Educator to provide orientation and address educational needs.
  • Engage staff in departmental performance improvement (PI) activities according to the PI plan.
  • Provide immediate counseling for staff when behaviors or incidents negatively affect patient care or the work environment; document incidents.
  • Oversee operational leadership of the shift, including patient flow and resource allocation to meet dynamic needs.
  • Champion efficient throughput and capacity management, benchmarking processes to improve practice.
  • Ensure staff behaviors align with UC Health’s RITE Values, Mission, and Vision, and provide transformational leadership related to Patient- and Family-Centered Care (PFCC).
  • Assist in developing and revising departmental standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Manage staffing and scheduling for a cohort of staff and shift.
  • Promote patient care safety standards and identify opportunities for improvement in patient satisfaction.
  • Facilitate conflict resolution and empower staff to participate in decision-making through shared governance.
  • Support and encourage professional development for staff.
  • Demonstrate efficiency in resource and supply use to support timely and effective patient care.
  • Identify operational needs, including capital equipment, medical supplies, office supplies, and equipment maintenance.
  • Participate in the new hire process, including shadowing, selection, and staff orientation to maintain care standards and competency.
  • Provide professional development and coaching for assigned staff, including quarterly rounding and annual performance appraisals.
  • Enforce corporate compliance and oversee risk management issues.
  • Ensure staff compliance with established policies, procedures, standards, and accreditation/licensing regulations.
  • Assist the manager in evaluating patient care and staff performance through observation, quality improvement activities, patient/family/staff interviews, and documentation review.
  • Function as a clinical resource in the area of specialty and promote evidence-based practice.
  • Assist in identifying and operationalizing best practices in the unit.
  • Facilitate ongoing staff professional growth.
