About the Role

UC Health is hiring a Part-Time Registered Nurse (RN) for the 6 Ridgeway Psychiatry unit at UC Medical Center. This is a 20-bed, mixed Geriatric/Psychiatric co-ed unit focusing on the treatment of older adults (many aged 55 and older) with primary psychiatric diagnoses.

This role offers exposure to a variety of behavioral health diagnoses and opportunities to work with psychiatric emergency services. The unit provides a clinical ladder program for career advancement, including monetary benefits and professional engagement through unit projects.

Responsibilities

• Utilize specialized nursing knowledge, judgment, and skills to provide culturally based, age-specific care to groups and individuals.
• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care in collaboration with interdisciplinary healthcare teams and within unit-specific timeframes.
• Develop and communicate a prioritized plan of care to all associates involved in patient care, adapting to patient needs and behavioral health challenges.
• Provide clear instructions to patients and families regarding treatment, involving them in assessment, initial treatment, and continuing care.
• Respond appropriately to diverse patient needs, including behavioral health issues, psychological needs, and religious/cultural norms.
• Demonstrate critical thinking, accountability, flexibility, and cooperation to meet unit needs.
• Accurately and concisely document the nursing process, including treatment evaluation, in accordance with hospital policies.
• Serve as a resource and mentor for new personnel, floaters, and supplemental staff.
• Pursue personal professional development and contribute to the development of peers, colleagues, and others.

Requirements

• Graduate from an accredited school of nursing; Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
• Current Ohio RN License.
• BLS/ACLS/PALS certifications as required by department based on patient population needs.
• Minimum of six months of direct patient care experience in a psychiatric setting or equivalent college-level coursework in nursing, psychology, or social work.
• For employees in UCMC Psychiatric Services: NCI-APS (Nonviolent Crisis Intervention with Advanced Physical Skills) Certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
