UC Health is hiring a Full-Time Registered Nurse (RN) Supervisor for 5 Ridgeway, Department of Psychiatry at the UC Medical Center.

About the role

The Clinical Shift Supervisor assumes responsibility for ensuring excellent patient care is delivered, maintaining expeditious patient flow with a focus on customer service, and supervising nursing staff. The Clinical Shift Supervisor provides input on staff evaluations and completes evaluations for their regular staff cohort. They also assist with cost containment and manage all employees to do the same. This position requires knowledge of leadership and effective interpersonal communication skills.

Qualifications

  • BSN in nursing and current license in the state of practice
  • Minimum of two years of clinical nursing experience in psychiatry
  • Five years of clinical and progressive management experience (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Operational leadership of shift including patient flow and assignment/adjustment of resources to meet dynamic changing needs throughout the shift
  • Supervise staff assigned to their unit or center of excellence, demonstrating the ability to coach and mentor staff
  • Lead and implement operational improvement initiatives and ensure compliance via staff coaching and mentoring
  • Identify needs for specific equipment and ensure adequate and properly functioning equipment and supplies are available for patient care
  • Ensure shift practice is in compliance with state and federal medical laws (EMTALA, HIPAA, and House Bill 316)
  • Maintain hospital-wide and department-specific nursing competencies and complete annual competencies in the required time frame
  • Collaborate with the Department Educator and/or provide orientation and educational needs identified in the department
  • Engage staff in departmental performance improvement (PI) activities according to the department PI plan
  • Provide immediate counseling for staff when specific behaviors or incidents negatively affect patient care or the general work environment; document incidents
  • Champion efficient throughput and capacity management
  • Benchmark internal processes to improve practice
  • Ensure staff behaviors support and are consistent with the RITE Values, Missions, and Vision of UC Health and University Hospital
  • Provide transformational leadership related to Patient and Family-Centered Care (PFCC)
  • Assist with developing and revising departmental standards, policies, and procedures
  • Handle staffing and scheduling responsibility for a cohort of staff and shift
  • Promote patient care safety standards
  • Actively identify opportunities for improvement in patient satisfaction, perform trials, and report back to leadership on results
  • Facilitate conflict resolution
  • Empower staff to participate in decision-making through shared governance/UBC
  • Maintain, support, and encourage professional development for self and others
  • Demonstrate efficiency through the appropriate use of resources or supplies to support timely and effective delivery of patient care
  • Identify operational needs for units including capital equipment, medical supplies, office supplies, hours of practice, minor equipment, and equipment maintenance
  • Participate in the new hire process: shadowing, selection, and oversee specific staff orientation to maintain established standards of care and ensure competency
  • Provide specific professional development and coaching for assigned cohort of staff, including quarterly rounding and annual performance appraisals
  • Participate in the corrective action process
  • Promote staff retention, team building, and collaboration
  • Enforce and maintain corporate compliance
  • Identify and oversee risk management issues
  • Ensure staff compliance with established policies, procedures, standards, and accreditation and licensing regulations
  • Assist the manager in evaluating the quality of patient care and staff performance through personal observation
  • Facilitate quality improvement monitoring activities
  • Interview patients, families, and staff; review documentation
  • Maintain hospital-wide and department-specific nursing competencies
  • Function as a clinical resource for the area of clinical specialty
  • Promote the use of evidence-based practice
  • Assist in identifying and operationalizing best practices in the unit
  • Facilitate ongoing staff professional growth
