Clinical Research Registered Nurse
About the Role
Registered Nurses in this position coordinate research projects, working closely with physicians, nurses, and other staff members caring for patients enrolled in research studies. Responsibilities include strict adherence to research protocols, recruitment, eligibility evaluation, informed consent, participant education, specimen collection, direct patient interactions, follow-up, and accurate data reporting. This role also provides technical support to non-nurse research personnel as directed.
Responsibilities
- Assist with clinical research and data collection, including coordination with managers/directors, developing project proposals, data analysis, and protocol budget proposals.
- Facilitate education and certification for medical, nursing, and allied healthcare staff on research processes.
- Coordinate clinical research projects with appropriate managers/directors.
- Demonstrate strong knowledge of each protocol and operation manuals for current studies.
- Communicate clinical project issues promptly to relevant persons, divisions, or departments.
- Prepare monthly progress reports for sponsors, principal investigators, or department managers as requested.
- Review project proposals, manuscripts, research policies, and manuals to assist with implementation and coordination at clinic and hospital levels, including in-service education and certification for healthcare providers.
- Collect pricing and billing information from departments to assist with capitation questionnaires.
- Collaborate with hospital nurse managers and physicians to facilitate new study implementation.
- Perform lead responsibilities, such as:
- Weekly scheduling and assignment of daily site duties.
- Monitoring and supervising research activities, including nurse productivity, feedback, mentoring, and training.
- Resolving research edits and audits in a timely manner.
- Coordinating site-specific supplies and office expansion.
- Training new research nurses and ensuring quality assurance of their work.
- Maintain confidentiality of patients involved in research projects.
- Participate in quality improvement and peer review processes by providing and receiving objective feedback.
- Delegate tasks to support personnel while maintaining protocol integrity.
- Review and present prospective studies to physicians to assess interest and feasibility.
Requirements
- Current State of Utah RN license.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers.
- Experience using word processing, spreadsheet, database, internet, email, and scheduling applications.
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- RNs hired or promoted into this role must obtain a BSN within three years of hire or promotion.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited institution.
- Prior experience coordinating research studies or clinical program projects in the relevant field of medicine.
- Ability to see, read, and interpret information, labels, monitors, and equipment, and assess patient needs.
- Frequent verbal communication with care providers, patients, and visitors, including during emergencies.
- Manual dexterity for precise equipment manipulation, including frequent computer use and typing.
Pay
The hourly range for this position is $37.45 - $57.29, with the actual rate dependent upon experience.

Schedule
This is a full-time position with 40 scheduled weekly hours.
Location: Intermountain Health Primary Children’s Hospital, Salt Lake City, Utah.
