Clinical Pharmacy Specialist – PGY2-ID Residency Program Director

About the role

The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Infectious Diseases is responsible for overseeing the medication use system in a designated clinical area. This includes daily monitoring, assessment, and recommendations for pharmacotherapy, as well as interdisciplinary patient care and education.

Responsibilities

• Develops, implements, and maintains departmental policies and procedures related to safe and appropriate use of antimicrobials
• Participates in daily infectious diseases rounds and provides drug information and consultation with physicians, pharmacists, and nurses regarding appropriate drug therapy and facilitates the drug ordering process
• Evaluates all drug therapy for appropriate indications, dosage, drug interactions, and allergies; monitors patients' regimen for effectiveness and adverse drug events and intervenes as appropriate
• Reviews the completeness and accuracy of medication profiles. Reconciles and updates profiles as required
• Maintains individual portfolio demonstrating specialist level work to be reviewed annually
• Serves as a preceptor to pharmacy students from local schools of pharmacy and PGY1 and PGY2 residents on infectious disease rotations
• Serve as the PGY2-ID residency program director
• Participate in department activities aimed at professional development for all staff members including clinical pharmacists, technicians, residents, and students
• Advise trainees and clinical pharmacists in projects including but not limited to: medication use evaluation, research, continuing education, in-services, lectures etc.
• Provide lectures for pharmacy, nursing, and medical staff as needed focused on practice specific areas

Requirements

• Required Education and Experience: Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college of pharmacy or a PharmD with at least 2 years of hospital experience. PGY-1 Residency Training with minimum 3 years of experience in Infectious diseases
• Preferred Education and Experience: PGY2 Training in infectious diseases
• Required Certifications, Licenses, Registrations: Current registration as a Pharmacist in Massachusetts is required within 90 days of hire. BLS/ACLS required

• Must be able to collaborate and effectively communicate with medical staff, pharmacists, nurses, and other health professionals

Skills & Abilities

• Knowledge of current drug-related procedures, policies, guidelines, and pathways
• Ability to identify adverse drug events and participate in event reporting system and assist in management, prevention, and development of process improvements to reduce drug errors and preventable ADEs
• Ability to participate in multidisciplinary committees at the institution and health system level (Pharmacy & Therapeutics and practice area Antimicrobial Stewardship Committees)
• Ability to provide lectures for pharmacy, nursing, and medical staff as needed focused on practice specific areas

Benefits

Compensation Range: $109,000.00 - $158,000.00
