CLINICAL NUTRITION MANAGER -

Department: Food and Nutrition – UH | FTE: 1.00 | Full Time | Shift: Days

About the Role

Plan, organize, develop, and conduct all aspects of a clinical nutrition program in accordance with applicable regulations. Develop standards for patient care; oversee quality assurance and nutrition protocols to ensure optimal patient care. Serve as therapeutic nutritionist. Coordinate design and implementation of nutrition education plans. Maintain working knowledge of current Cbord systems to assure nutritional adequacy of patient meals served and adherence to therapeutic diets. Ensures adherence to Hospital and Departmental Policies and Procedures. Patient care assignment may include: Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric age groups.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the supervision of assigned personnel, including work allocation, training, problem resolution, performance evaluation, and recommendations for personnel actions to motivate employees for peak productivity.
• Maintain required records and compile scheduled and periodic reports.
• Develop or assist with the development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure efficient and safe operation of the department.
• Assist in menu development for nutritional adequacy and designing therapeutic diets; maintain up-to-date working knowledge of UNMH Cbord systems.
• Develop or assist in the development of educational programs; teach nutrition and other health science topics to staff and other professionals.
• Develop or assist with performance improvement plans and activities.
• Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
• Develop and administer the division's annual budget; monitor and approve expenditures.
• Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures, and protocols.
• Demonstrate a proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve policies and processes.
• Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk.
• Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors, and/or near misses in a timely manner.
• Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting concerns.
• Attend clinical, technical, and administrative meetings; participate in committee functions and hospital-wide activities within the scope of this position or as directed.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in a related discipline (Master’s Degree preferred).
• 3 years of directly related experience.
• Licensed Dietitian or Nutritionist in New Mexico.
• Certification with Commission on Dietetic Registration or eligible if providing proof of registration within a specified timeframe.
• CPR for Healthcare/BLS Provider or Professional Rescuers certification within 30 days of hire.

Physical Conditions

• Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, with physical demands exceeding those for Sedentary Work.
• May require walking or standing to a significant degree or sitting most of the time but entails pushing/pulling of arm or leg controls.
• May require working at a production rate pace entailing constant pushing/pulling of materials, even if the weight is negligible.
• Working conditions: Minor hazard – physical risks, dirt, dust, fumes, noise.
• May perform subordinate tasks in high census/volume situations.
• May be required or is required to perform on-call duties.
• Subject to an annual contract and performance appraisal.
• Tuberculosis testing completed upon hire and additionally as required.
