The Vascular Clinical Nurse Specialist at Carilion Clinic provides direct/indirect specialized, comprehensive care, emphasizes health promotion, disease prevention, and collaborative management strategies. They participate in clinical, educational, leadership, consultant, and research activities, providing 24x7 support for nursing and targeted patient populations.

The Vascular Clinical Nurse Specialist transforms healthcare by:

• Demonstrating advanced knowledge and analysis of nursing practice issues related to clinical specialty.
• Providing consultation, within area of expertise, to health care team regarding complex patient care needs.
• Providing direct and indirect expert patient/family care in specialty area.
• Developing and evaluating standards of practice in specialty area based on evidence and best practice.
• Developing evidence-based clinical interventions and systems to achieve defined patient and system outcomes.
• Critically analyzing research findings and recommending evidence-based practice changes to improve patient outcomes.
• Disseminating research and EBP findings through in-services education, unit councils, shared governance groups, etc.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in nursing required.
• Two years of nursing experience in area of Vascular is preferred.
• Current nursing licensure and specialty certification required.
• Must be registered as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in the State of Virginia or can obtain it within 6 months of hire.
• Additional certification(s) specific to a business unit may be required (e.g., OB/GYN requires OB certifications and EFM preferred).
• AHA BLS-HCP required.
