Clinical Nurse - Ortho Surgical, Part Time

Barnes Jewish West County Hospital offers specialized surgical and medical services in a healing environment. The 2100 Inpatient Unit consists of Orthopedic, Spine, Urological, and Plastic Surgery patients. It is a short-stay unit focused on providing an exceptional post-operative experience to ensure safe patient discharge.

About the Role

The 2100 Inpatient Unit at Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital manages patients with Orthopedic, Spine, Urological, Plastics, and other general post-surgical conditions. Due to patient acuity, advanced training is provided to maintain nurses at the highest level of functioning. The unit is supported by a multidisciplinary team including a clinical manager, lead charge nurse, case manager, social worker, physical therapist, dietitian, and pharmacist.

Schedule

• Part Time, two 12-hour day shifts per week
• Every 4th weekend (Saturday & Sunday)
• Holiday rotation as required by the department

Responsibilities

• Promotes patient and family-centered care in a healing environment.
• Educates patients and their families on managing illness or injury, including post-treatment home care needs and medication administration.
• Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
• Participates in professional development.
• Develops, implements, and documents individual plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with the interprofessional team, patient, family, or caregiver, following established guidelines and standards of nursing care.
• Proactively plans and ensures communication of the plan of care across the continuum of care.
• Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care.
• Assesses patient preferences and barriers to involvement in care, including values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population-specific needs.

Requirements

• Nursing Diploma or Associate's in Nursing
• No prior experience required
• RN license

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
• 1 year of RN experience
