Clinical Nurse II - Labor and Delivery - Tri-City Medical Center - Night Shift - Per Diem

Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM, 12-hour shifts (12/36 schedule). Weekend requirement: every other weekend. On-call not required. This position is covered by a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with CNA. Start date: September 8, 2026.

Pay

Hourly pay range: $72.90 – $80.19.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the interprofessional health care team to deliver safe, efficient, patient-centered, timely, and equitable care.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify patient-specific needs; develop and implement individualized care plans.
  • Monitor and evaluate patient interventional responses, ensuring swift follow-up as needed.
  • Act as patient advocate, protecting patient dignity and confidentiality.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of care provided by all health care team members, including oneself, and the contribution of systems and environment in progressing patients toward desired outcomes.
  • Provide education to patients and families about medical conditions, medications, and lifestyle modifications.
  • Advocate for evidence-based practices in Labor and Delivery care.
  • Maintain a safe, clean working environment, adhering to infection control and hospital policies; maintain strict adherence to aseptic techniques and infection control protocols.
  • Comply with hospital and regulatory standards, including The Joint Commission and OSHA guidelines.
  • Identify and report safety concerns; demonstrate willingness to address pervasive systemic issues.
  • Accurately document care measures, interventions, patient progress, and any incidents in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Provide preceptorship and mentorship to New Graduate Nurses, New Hires, and students, fostering their professional development.
  • Participate in professional development activities, including continuing education, certifications, workshops, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Serve as a resource and advocate for best practices within the Labor and Delivery department.
  • Function in various roles, including charge nurse, OB ED, OB OR Circulator, OB PACU, and transition role as needed.
  • Act decisively in critical situations, such as cardiac arrest, demonstrating advanced clinical skills and composure under pressure.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or Associate's Degree in Nursing (ADN) with five (5) years of experience as a Registered Nurse in a Labor and Delivery Unit in lieu of BSN.
  • 2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse in labor and delivery or equivalent setting.
  • California Registered Nurse (RN) license – required.
  • AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) – required.
  • ACLS Certification (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – required.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) – required.
  • Current Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Monitoring Certification (AWHONN or other approved course) – required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Inpatient Obstetric Nursing (RNC-OB) certification.
  • Current STABLE certification.
  • Proficiency in circulating and scrubbing (preferred) obstetrics surgical cases, as well as recovery of post-operative obstetrics patients.
  • Competency in managing procedural sterile fields and ensuring adherence to procedural protocols.
  • Proficiency in the Newborn Transition Role.
  • Knowledge of and competency in caring for women and newborns throughout the LDRP (Labor, Delivery, Recovery, & Postpartum) continuum.

Skills

  • Technical Skills: Proficient in operating advanced labor & delivery related equipment and technology.
  • Critical Thinking: Rapid decision-making skills in high-pressure environments; ability to prioritize tasks and adapt to dynamic cases.
  • Communication: Effective verbal and written communication with the Labor & Delivery team, patients, and families; strong interpersonal skills to support a collaborative team environment.
