The Role
The Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse at the Clinical Nurse II (CN II) level plays a crucial role in the Women and Newborn Services team, providing high-quality, patient-centered care.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate the interprofessional health care team to deliver safe, efficient, patient-centered, timely and equitable care.
- Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify patient-specific needs.
- Develop and implement individualized care plans.
- Maintain strict adherence to aseptic techniques and infection control protocols.
- Evaluate effectiveness of care provided by all health care team members, including oneself, and contribute to system and environmental improvements.
- Provide education to patients and families about medical conditions, medications, and lifestyle modifications.
- Advocate for evidence-based practices in Labor and Delivery care.
- Act as patient advocate and protect patient dignity and confidentiality.
- Document care measures, interventions, patient progress, and any incidents in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Participate in professional development activities, including continuing education, certifications, workshops, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Serve as a resource and advocate for best practices within the Labor and Delivery department.
- Function in various roles, including charge nurse, OB ED, OB OR Circulator, OB PACU, and transition role as needed.
- Act decisively in critical situations, such as cardiac arrest, demonstrating advanced clinical skills and composure under pressure.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing OR Associate's Degree in Nursing Nursing (ADN) with five (5) years of experience as a Registered Nurse in a Labor and Delivery Unit in lieu of BSN.
- Two (2) years experience as a Registered Nurse in labor and delivery or equivalent setting.
- California Registered Nurse (RN) - CA Board of Registered Nursing - REQUIRED
- AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) - American Heart Association - REQUIRED
- AHA ACLS Certification (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - American Heart Association - REQUIRED
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) - Various-Employee provides certificate - REQUIRED
- Current STABLE certification, preferred.
- Current Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Monitoring Certification (AWHONN or other approved course), required.
