Position Summary
The Nurse Educator is responsible for facilitating the development of clinical excellence through active participation in orientation, training/role transition, internships/externships, career development, continuing education/continued competence and academic partnerships. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
Responsibilities
- Utilizes principles of education, adult learning and, for nurses, bases all activities on the professional growth pathway of the Novice to Expert continuum.
- Responsible for the effective implementation of staff clinical orientation, competency development, and quality nursing education.
- Serves as a role model and resource to the nursing staff, provides consultation, and participates in the development of nursing care standards in the department.
- Promotes excellence in nursing as a subject matter expert of the Professional Practice Model.
- Creates, plans, implements and coordinates orientation for individuals new to the department. Activities to include coaching of new and experienced nursing staff, performance evaluation and growth plans completed in collaboration with management.
- Actively participates, communicates and serves as a positive change agent and assists in recruitment of staff.
- Facilitates and evaluates activities related to career development and succession planning for staff.
- Validates the competency of existing staff and newly hired staff and coordinates in-services, continuing education and policy revisions.
Requirements, Experience and Qualifications
- Current licensure to practice professional nursing in New York State required.
- Minimum 5 years nursing experience with 2 years in acute or critical care unit.
- Current BLS provider certification from the American Heart Association required.
- Current ACLS and PALS provider certification from the American Heart Association preferred.
- Prior experience as a Nurse Educator preferred.
- BSN is required and MSN is preferred.
Pay
$115,000 - $130,000
