Clinical Nurse Educator

This is a grant-funded, 12-month faculty position supported by the Perkins Grant with an anticipated end date of August 2, 2027. The role is subject to annual renewal and primarily operates in clinical and hospital environments, with some responsibilities in laboratory settings.

About the role

The Clinical Nurse Educator is responsible for direct supervision and clinical instruction of nursing students in healthcare settings, serving as a professional role model and clinical expert. This position focuses on guiding, evaluating, and mentoring students during their clinical learning experiences, as well as providing support in nursing labs for skill development. Responsibilities may shift based on operational needs, clinical site demands, and accreditation requirements, with the majority of time spent in direct clinical supervision.

Teaching assignments may include day and evening classes, and the position requires in-person work at West and/or Osceola Campuses, as well as at clinical sites in Orange and Osceola counties. The schedule may vary by semester.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a clinical role model and mentor for nursing students in assigned healthcare settings.
• Supervise students’ delivery of nursing care at the bedside, ensuring safe, ethical, and evidence-based practices.
• Evaluate students’ clinical performance and maintain accurate and timely documentation of evaluations.
• Provide ongoing feedback, guidance, and counseling to students regarding their clinical progress.
• Collaborate with faculty and administration to develop and coordinate meaningful clinical learning experiences, such as simulation integration or specialty rotations.
• Select appropriate clients and clinical cases to support student learning and skill development while maintaining and ensuring quality patient care.
• Foster and maintain strong relationships with clinical agency partners, acting as a liaison between the academic program and healthcare facilities.
• Participate in faculty and departmental meetings, trainings, and program development initiatives as needed.
• Uphold professional standards and comply with institutional, accreditation, and healthcare regulations.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) from a regionally accredited institution.
• Minimum of three (3) years of full-time experience as a Registered Nurse providing direct patient care in a healthcare facility.
• Current Registered Nurse license in Florida in good standing.
• CPR certification at the Health Care Provider level.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Nursing Education.
• Experience working with undergraduate nursing students in clinical settings and/or prior experience in precepting or clinical supervision.

Skills

• Knowledge of nursing principles and ability to model professional behaviors while supervising students in safe, ethical, and evidence-based patient care.
• Skill in assessing clinical performance, maintaining documentation, and providing constructive feedback and academic support.
• Ability to design and coordinate meaningful clinical experiences and student assignments, including client/case selection, in collaboration with faculty and clinical sites.
• Strong interpersonal skills to effectively liaise with students, faculty, and clinical partners, and to participate in meetings and program initiatives.
• Knowledge of nursing standards, accreditation requirements, and institutional policies, with a commitment to professional integrity and compliance.
• Strong clinical judgment and problem-solving skills to support safe, effective patient care and student learning.
• Ability to engage in physically demanding clinical work, including prolonged activity, assisting with patient mobility, and performing hands-on procedures requiring visual acuity, fine motor skills, and sensory responsiveness.

Working Conditions

This role primarily operates in clinical and hospital environments, with some responsibilities in laboratory settings. The employee will routinely use standard medical equipment (e.g., patient monitors, infusion pumps, ECG machines) and may occasionally use lab- or office-related equipment (e.g., microscopes, computers, phones).

The role may involve exposure to bloodborne pathogens, bodily fluids, and hazardous materials. The work environment may have moderate to high noise levels, particularly in areas with active patient monitoring equipment or during clinical activities.

Physical demands include:

• Frequent standing, walking, and assisting with patient care or demonstrating clinical techniques.
• Occasional sitting for documentation, evaluations, or meetings.
• Frequent use of hands for handling medical equipment, performing procedures, and providing instruction.
• Occasional reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, or crouching to assist students or retrieve items.
• Lifting or carrying items up to 20-30 pounds, such as medical equipment or supplies, and assisting with patient care and movement.
• Frequent communication, discernment, and exchange of information, including detecting and perceiving objects up close and at a distance.
• Cognitive abilities including discretion, judgment, reasoning, memory, learning, comprehension, problem-solving, and decision-making.

This position requires a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings or weekends, and local travel to hospital or clinical sites.

Pay

Salary is determined by highest earned degree based on Valencia College’s Salary Schedule.
