Clinical/Medical Assistant

Scope of Responsibilities

• Assists physicians and clinicians with patient care duties in a clinical environment.
• Promotes efficient patient flow and patient care, including exams and procedures.
• Performs clinic support tasks such as answering phones, maintaining schedules, and managing supplies.
• Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program.
• Escorts patients to and from exam rooms, physician offices, and treatment rooms.
• Records patient data before each physician visit, including vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes.
• Obtains necessary patient records as required by physician.
• Prepares and stocks exam/treatment rooms and orders supplies as needed.
• Assists physicians with exams and procedures as requested.
• Administers subcutaneous and intramuscular injections, as delegated by RN or physician.
• Maintains all exam/treatment room disinfection protocols.
• Answers patient telephone calls for referrals to physician or nurse/pharmacist.
• Phones in prescriptions and makes other patient calls as directed by physicians and RN.
• Informs physician of patient reschedules and no-shows.
• Performs other administrative duties as requested by supervisor or physician.

Qualifications

• Medical Assistant - Graduated from an accredited Medical Assistant Program.
• Current CPR Certification.
• Current Certified MA or Registered MA (willing to obtain certification/registration within 6 months of hire).
• 2-3 years of experience preferred, oncology experience helpful.
• Clinical Assistant - Current CPR Certification.
• 2-3 years of experience preferred, oncology experience helpful.
• One of the following is required:
• Diploma or equivalent from an accredited Medical Assistant Program.
• Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certification.
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) with 1 year direct care experience.

Physical Demands

• Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
• Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
• Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs.
• Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

Work Environment

• Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medical preparations, and other conditions common to an oncology/hematology clinic environment.

Salary Level

$21.50-$30.00/hour
