Clinical Laboratory Scientist - Campus Health and Wellbeing

About the role

Reporting to the Director of Clinical Services, the Clinical Laboratory Scientist performs a variety of clinical laboratory tests that provide medical staff with essential data for the detection, diagnosis, and treatment of illnesses, diseases, and other conditions within the university setting. Responsibilities include pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical lab testing, quality control, equipment maintenance, and reporting/documentation. The laboratory utilizes electronic health records and laboratory information systems for ordering, receiving, reporting, and data retrieval of lab testing.

Responsibilities

• Perform phlebotomy and receive patients.
• Process specimens and operate analyzers for hematology, urinalysis, immunology, chemistry, and molecular testing.
• Conduct microscopic analysis, including slide preparation and appropriate use of stains.
• Maintain quality control and ensure proper equipment maintenance.
• Adhere to patient privacy and information security requirements, including HIPAA compliance.
• Assist in the technical administration of the clinical laboratory as needed.
• Handle sensitive patient information with confidentiality and professional judgment.

Requirements

• Valid California Clinical Laboratory Scientist license with competency in phlebotomy.
• Basic life support (or higher) CPR/AED certification for Healthcare Providers (required by date of hire).
• Bachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory science or equivalent from an accredited institution.
• Two years of increasingly responsible and diverse experience as a journey-level Clinical Laboratory Scientist.
• Comprehensive knowledge of clinical laboratory science theories, principles, and practices, including equipment operation and maintenance.
• Thorough knowledge of specimen preparation techniques, clinical laboratory disciplines, methodologies, and diagnostic testing (e.g., chemical, bacteriological, serological, hematological, immunological, molecular).
• Working knowledge of electronic health records and laboratory information systems.

Pay

Anticipated Hiring Range: $93,336 - $103,056 per year. Classification Range: $76,572 - $111,552 per year. Compensation is determined based on experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure, certifications, and organizational needs.
