Responsibilities
- Adhere to laboratory procedures for the collection, processing, analysis, and reporting of patient test results.
- Follow established quality control policies and procedures, documenting all corrective actions when necessary.
- Identify and address problems affecting test performance independently or report to supervisor.
- Perform a variety of laboratory procedures, including manual and automated methods in Hematology, Blood Bank, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology, Immunology, and other disciplines.
- Perform and document maintenance of instruments and equipment as required.
- Review and document accuracy of patient results before release or reporting.
- Recognize and account for age-specific differences in test results.
- Ensure proficiency testing samples are tested similarly to patient samples and collaborate only after reporting results.
- May perform venipuncture or capillary puncture on various age groups.
- Aid in the development and maintenance of laboratory policies and procedures.
- Comply with department and hospital policies and procedures related to safety, infection control, emergency preparedness, and human resources.
- In the absence of a supervisor, may assume responsibility for the section or department during their shift.
- May be assigned responsibilities related to LIS and/or POCT.
- Other tasks or responsibilities as assigned by the department manager/director.
Qualifications
- ASCP certification, or equivalent, preferred.
- One year hospital laboratory work experience preferred, but not required.
- Bachelor’s Degree in chemical, physical, biological health science or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution, or other educational requirements stated in CLIA.
- Current and valid State License if the laboratory is located in a state where required.
Pay & Benefits
Competitive compensation is offered, with a current compensation range for this role being $41.64. Benefits may vary based on collective bargaining agreement requirements and/or the employment status. The exact starting compensation to be offered will be determined at the time of selecting an applicant for hire, considering a wide range of factors including skillset, years of applicable experience, education, credentials, and licensure.
