About the Role
We are seeking an experienced professional to join our fast-paced hospital laboratory in the beautiful coastal city of Eureka, CA. This is a true generalist role requiring experience across multiple laboratory disciplines, with a strong emphasis on recent Blood Bank experience. Enjoy the charm of a small town with the amenities of a larger city, surrounded by stunning natural beauty.
This hospital laboratory supports a Level III Trauma Center, Open Heart Program, two Cardiac Catheterization Labs, a high-volume Oncology Clinic, and busy acute care inpatient and emergency services. Travelers who extend their assignment may have increased Blood Bank coverage responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Perform laboratory testing across multiple departments, including:
- Hematology
- Coagulation
- Chemistry
- Urinalysis
- Serology
- Limited Microbiology
- Blood Bank
- Perform blood banking procedures including:
- ABO/Rh Testing
- Antibody Screening
- Crossmatching
- Transfusion support
- Ensure accurate specimen processing and result reporting.
- Review quality control and maintain laboratory compliance standards.
- Operate and maintain laboratory instrumentation.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary teams to provide timely diagnostic results.
- Adhere to all safety, infection prevention, and regulatory requirements.
Requirements
- Current California Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) License (if applicable).
- ASCP MLS/MT Certification (or equivalent).
- Minimum 1 year of recent Clinical Laboratory Scientist experience in an acute care hospital.
- Recent Blood Bank experience is required.
- Strong generalist laboratory experience.
- Minimum 1 year of recent hospital laboratory experience.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality patient care.

Note: Antibody identification experience is not required.
Schedule
- Various shifts available.
- Floating required based on department needs.
- On-call required.
- Weekend rotation required (every other or every third weekend based on department scheduling).
