Clinical Laboratory Assistant I PRN Evenings

About the role

Under direct supervision, this role involves the preparation and routing of laboratory testing in one of the specialized laboratories within UMMS, adhering to departmental procedures and Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act regulations.

Responsibilities

• Receives and accessions patient samples into the Laboratory Information System, ensuring accurate and timely entry of codes and information.
• Maintains accurate patient identification and billing information following departmental procedures.
• Processes specimens (centrifuges, aliquots, and performs other special handling procedures) and delivers them to specific laboratories as required.
• Preserves specimens in appropriate storage (refrigerator, freezer, incubator, dry ice, etc.).
• Identifies and resolves specimen integrity issues (e.g., mislabeled specimens, quantity not sufficient, incorrect container type, incomplete requisitions) and documents all information for quality assurance.
• Processes add-on testing according to departmental procedures.
• May perform waived to moderate complexity testing.
• Answers telephones and responds to customer inquiries and requests.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
• One (1) year of customer service experience is preferred.
