Shift start and end times are variable. 8-hour shifts totaling 40 hours per week. Weekend work required every other weekend. No on-call duty.

Pay

The hourly pay range is $49.70 – $71.82, with a midpoint of $64.13. The actual pay rate and pay grade will be determined by factors such as years of experience, unique skills and abilities, education, alignment with similar internal candidates, marketplace factors, and employer business practices.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical knowledge, expertise, and judgment to support Sharp HealthCare’s laboratory services.
  • Perform analytical testing procedures using written policies and procedures; identify and revise policies as needed.
  • Complete new procedures within acceptable training timeframes; meet or exceed department turnaround time goals.
  • Document activities and results thoroughly; review and correct clerical and analytical errors.
  • Evaluate data for accuracy and verify questionable findings through investigation.
  • Perform pre-analytical (sample collection, processing) and analytical procedures with consideration for patient age and population-specific needs.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking and decision-making under stressful situations.
  • Serve as a resource for employee/student training, development, and competency assessment.
  • Act as a key operator for testing, validation, analyzers, and technology.
  • Participate in writing and revising policies and procedures.
  • Manage equipment, including reporting and resolving issues, performing maintenance, and validating performance post-repair.
  • Participate in analyzer and test methodology evaluation and selection.
  • Demonstrate competency in using laboratory information systems, software, and tools.
  • Manage inventory and prevent shortages of reagents and supplies.
  • Coordinate quality assurance processes, including QC performance, proficiency testing, and test validation.
  • Represent the laboratory in committees, task forces, or workgroups.
  • Supervise Medical Lab Technicians, Certified Phlebotomy Technicians, and Laboratory Assistants.
  • Complete and assess quality assurance indicators and monitor thresholds.
  • Investigate, correct, and document errors; notify appropriate personnel.
  • Perform shift lead duties as necessary.
  • Participate in regulatory and safety compliance activities.

Requirements

  • California Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) Generalist license or a CLS specialty license (e.g., Clinical Chemist, Clinical Microbiologist, Clinical Toxicologist, Clinical Genetic Molecular Biologist, Clinical Cytogeneticist, or Clinical Histocompatibility Scientist) issued by the CA Department of Public Health. License must align with the assigned department.
  • ASCP certification preferred.
  • Experience in a clinical laboratory as a CLS (preferred).
